Excel slow with network documents

There was an Excel update around June 2011 that is causing the problem.
Offending patch is KB2523021 for Microsoft Excel 2011.
Control Panel -> Programs and Files -> View Installed Updates
From there you can look for the Office/Excel Updates and chose to uninstall the offending update.
A reboot might be required.
